Before I begin, make sure you do your research! I have done mine, you have to do what’s best for you and your family. Remember if you use essential oils that have been adulterated, they can cause serious health issues in our four-legged friends!
I use doTERRA essential oils with my family and pets, I didn’t always, then again I had zero education in/with essential oils several years ago. When I used to use the oils I found on store shelves and figured they were good enough for my needs…boy was I wrong! I may get into that in this post or save it for another.
My husband Adam and I are realists…MLM’s are really not our style, but I am a “Wellness Advocate” so I guess they kinda are now. The biggest thing I love about this company is the testing processes each and every oil goes through before it is approved…that for me is huge.
So lets get into the good stuff… What you hear is mostly true, there are essential oils that are very harmful to our pets! IF USED PROPERLY and an incredibly reliable brand, not so much. I WILL NOT use any essential oil from any random store. The problem in in the testing, most companies do not devote all their time and effort into ensuring their products are the best, that makes me worry.
I use doTERRA essential oils. I use them to help my pets with digestion, joint pain, to help with mood…shall I go on?
Topical Applications: Dilution is the most important word here. Our pets are not the same size/weight as us so we must dilute to prevent sensitivity. I practice Pet Massage, using Fractionated Coconut Oil is a must for me. You need to dilute more for smaller pets and less for larger ones.

Aromatic Applications: Keep on on diffusing! Only use 3-4 drops total in a water-based diffuser. Make sure there is an exit strategy (leave the door open) so you pets can come and go as they please. Be aware of ‘hot oils’, think tea tree or cinnamon. Speaking of tea tree, cats do not metabolize tea tree the same way we do, so use caution. Keep your diffuser and oils in a spot where your pets cannot knock them down. We all know cats love to knock everything off counters.

Internal Applications: My dogs get oils in the morning to support joint healthy skin and joints. We occasionally use TerraZyme to support in digestion. I also add a drop of Copiaba to their food. (Copiaba does so many wonderful things I’ll cover in another post)

Guess what, I also use doTERRA essential oils in dog training! When working with nervous or excited dogs I can teach them to calm…does it happen overnight, NO…with training, it takes time and consistency.
Believe me, there is so much more to learn about essential oils and your pets. Now that I am an Animal Aromatherapy Specialist, I have so much more information to share. Please join me in one of my classes or contact me for a consultation to help with your pet’s needs.
