Did you know pet nutrition plays an important role in the health of our pets? No longer are the days of getting table scraps or digging around in the trash. There are several options for feeding our fur babies. From kibble to raw, what is best? There are so many questions revolving around nutrition.
Most people ask me what brand of food they should buy for their dogs and cats. I honestly cannot tell you a specific brand. There are a lot of good dog and cat foods out there. The most important part (for me) is that the protein is the first ingredient. So if the protein is duck, the label should start out with duck as the first ingredient then the rest of the vitamins, minerals and carbs.
You may have noticed a lot of animals are allergic to say chicken…Well is it really the chicken or is it what the chicken has been fed? Could it be other ingredients in the food causing the issues? Have you looked into the energetics of your pet? Do they run warm or cold, I look at what your pet runs before I start recommending. Mine run hot so I give more cooling foods.
Look at where your pet’s food is coming from. Sourcing is important when it comes to the ingredients of pet food, and our food as well. Feed more real food! We have decided to feed all real food or “human food” because my animals are healthier for it. Even if you aren’t ready to switch adding 20 percent real food will improve your pet’s health.
Raw and elimination diets can really help figuring out what your pet is allergic to. Also, add an omega supplement! Brain and gut health are important for your pets and you! I will be honest, feeding raw would be awesome but I may gag each time I feed my animals and that wouldn’t last long. Lightly cooked is also a good way to feed. For us, raw is expensive! (and I might vomit trying to feed my animals, yuck!)
There are tons of pet foods on the market, some are lower quality, some higher quality. The important thing to remember is, that each pet is different! We are different, we all have similar but different nutritional needs. If you are not supporting those needs, behavioral and physical problems can emerge, this is where pet nutrition is important.
